Charles “Chuck” McElroy, executive director of ServiceSource affiliate WorkSource Enterprises, has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2026. Chuck has served as executive director of WorkSource, serving individuals with significant disabilities in Charlottesville, Virginia, and five surrounding counties, for 31 years. His unwavering focus on the people served by WorkSource led to expanded programs, increased opportunities for independence, and deeper engagement within the community.

“I’ve worked alongside Chuck for many years as a member of the WorkSource Board of Directors and through our successful affiliation with ServiceSource in 2023,” said Juliet Hatchett, Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Innocence Project at the University of Virginia School of Law. “He’s well known in Charlottesville for his passion and dedication to helping people with disabilities lead more fulfilling lives. His impact on our community is immeasurable and will be felt for many years to come.”

Chuck’s service spans numerous boards and advisory councils, including longstanding leadership roles with the Virginia Association of Community Rehabilitation Programs (vaACCSES) and multiple appointments with the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services. He has been a tireless advocate and leader in the nonprofit, workforce development, and rehabilitation community, shaping policy and strengthening services for individuals and families throughout the Commonwealth.

“I’ve worked closely with Chuck for over 15 years, and ServiceSource has partnered with him in Virginia for more than three decades,” said ServiceSource President and CEO Ken Crum. “I’m grateful for his leadership, friendship, and unwavering commitment to our mission.”

Prior to joining WorkSource, Chuck served as Executive Director of Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind in Washington, D.C., and before that, worked in the banking industry. Beyond his professional roles, Chuck has volunteered with numerous civic organizations in Charlottesville, reinforcing his steadfast commitment to service and community leadership.

“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve people with disabilities in the Charlottesville area as part of WorkSource,” says Chuck. “I have had the good fortune to work with talented and dedicated staff and supportive Board members who have made my 31 years here go by very quickly. I treasure the opportunities I’ve had to establish very meaningful and gratifying relationships with many of the individuals we’ve served, and I greatly appreciate the support of the community and the people I’ve worked with in support of WorkSource and our mission.”

As Chuck begins this next chapter, ServiceSource celebrates his extraordinary leadership and the lasting impact he’s made on WorkSource and the disability community. His legacy will continue to inspire our team as we build on the foundation he’s helped create. We are deeply grateful for Chuck’s work and wish him all the best for a fulfilling and well-earned retirement.
